Regarding her writing of ‘The Ancient’ Ms Gray stated;-

Muriel Gray: “Yeah, although unfortunately I started writing the Ancient before The Mummy came out. How irritating is that! Oh, I had a very funny incident with that actually because this guy wrote to HarperCollins and said she’s - like one of these kind of Stephen King things - she’s stolen my story. And you think, oh no, here we go. And he sent this thing in and it was practically the double, luckily he said ‘I wrote it then,’ and of course that was long after, you know, the book had actually been in print. So obviously he was a nutter, but he did write it and believed and then read this book and believed that it. And the lawyer sent this letter back to him and said, it was one of the most insulting things, he said: we can see the similarities but that’s simply because of the clichéd nature of the material (big laugh).”

I have set up a website hewasanutter.com detailing the saga of a claim that I made against the writer and broadcaster named Muriel Gray. I made the claim in the Small Claims Court, I simply asked that the court determine who wrote their book first - me or Muriel Gray.

Ms Gray informed an audience that my book was written “long after” hers was in print. I knew that to be a lie, I knew that she also knew it to be a lie. Ms Gray informed the audience that my book was “practically identical” to hers and that I had informed her publishers, HarperCollins, that “she’s stolen my story.”

Instead of Ms Gray simply providing evidence to back up her statement to the audience she employed a team of lawyers to defend her, their sole intention was to seek to get my claim ‘struck out.’

The first judge said that the claim must progress. The lawyers put in an Application for it to be struck out. The matter was then heard by His Honour Judge Reid QC on two occasions - he decided that the claim must progress - with no right of Appeal.

Ms Gray’s lawyers appealed, the matter was heard in the High Court by Mr Justice Roth. Two solicitors and a barrister represented Ms Gray. The judge spoke of opening the “floodgates” and his concern for “famous people.” He struck out my claim, awarding costs to Ms Gray and her expensive legal team.
